A Bachelor Degree consists of a minimum of 120 credit hours and is comprised of general education, major oriented, and elective course work. This degree is typically completed in four years and is offered by four year universities and colleges. Many seek a Bachelor Degree either as preparation for advanced work in a professional or academic field or as a foundation towards obtaining a Master's Degree. Bachelor Degrees are composed of a general education base and study within a major program.
General education courses expose students to a breadth of intellectual disciplines and help to foster analytical and critical reasoning skills. While promoting an overall competence in several key areas: communication ( written and oral), natural sciences and mathematics, behavioral and social sciences, arts and humanities, and multicultural studies, these courses enhance a student's understanding of the major historical, social, cultural, and intellectual forces that have shaped the world. The focused study in one's major compliments the breadth of study promoted in general education coursework.
